Book Club Discussion Questions

  1. Would you rather have Bertie Dunnigan as a friend or as your lawyer? Why?
  2. The settings for the story were in Louisville and Estill County, Kentucky, a distance of only 120 miles between them. How were the cultures different and why did Bertie remain so close to a place she was most afraid of?
  3. Of the four girls: Bertie, Audrey, Marie and Eve, who was your favorite character and why?

  5. What did you like most about the book? What was you favorite part?
  6. Was there anything left unresolved in the story for you? If so, what?
  7. Even though the girls did not technically drown Eddy, do you feel they were  still culpable for his death?
  8. What do you think would have happened if the girls were honest about what took place down at the river?
  9. How did you feel at the conclusion of the story?
  10. If you could ask the author a question, what would you most like to know?
