Hello Everyone!
A very Happy New Year! At least I’m praying for that. If 2020 and 2021 are any indication of what 2022 will bring, well, I do believe prayers are needed. I don’t mean to be maudlin, but, seriously let’s just recap.
First, Covid, Corona, Delta, Omicron, the band of outlaw brother viruses that rode into every flippin’ town in the world and reeked mayhem and destruction is still alive and well. If that wasn’t bad enough, the good guys who have heroically come up with a cure, have watched as the very thing they’ve created to save lives, to help mankind, has been rejected because of misguided political ideology. Science has literally been rejected. Which means herd immunity can’t be achieved, which means these little devils will continue to mutate, spawning variants that continue to infect. These people don’t need the “jab” they need a royal kick in the arse!!!!
Second, the planet is on a complete path of destruction due to climate change and we’ve been warned. Again, rejection of science, There are actually people who deny global warming. Dear Lord, what more evidence is needed. If I were honest though, I’m not sure that they don’t believe in climate change, they just don’t care. Political leaders and captains of industry are more interest in capitalism than they are in the future of mankind. It’s not profitable. And yet, the number of homes, communities, wildlife, and forests destroyed by fires, floods, and tornadoes should scare the hell out of all of us. It’s happening NOW! Texas was completely immobilized due to frigid temperatures last winter, practically shutting down the entire state. Fires in California and Colorado are out of control, The town of Mayfield, Kentucky was wiped out in an instant due to Category 4 and 5 tornadoes. The planet is heating up, it’s only going to get worse.
Third, how many more times do we have to turn on the television to find out another school shooting has occurred. There were 34 school shootings in 2021. Think about that: 34 SCHOOL SHOOTINGS! America has become something I don’t even recognize. America has become a place where I don’t feel safe! I fear for my grandchildren. And there are some fools who actually think the answer is more guns. I’m so tired of trying to reason with the absurd.
If this sounds like Doomsday, it’s because it’s heading in that direction. That’s the reality. That’s why I’m praying for something to give us hope in 2022. It is possible to work together to make it a better tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. We all want the same things: health, a safe place to live, a clean environment, a strong economy, well paying job, good education, and yes, world peace. We want the same things, we just don’t always agree on how to get there. We’ve got to stop treating each other as the enemy. I want to believe things will get better, but to be honest, I’m not sure how we get there looking at our present state. Even with all this said, I will pray, because I need to believe in a better tomorrow. The only thing that I can really promise is that I will do my best to be part of the solution.
