Hi Everyone,
Most folks who know me could probably guess that besides my family, their are three things I am most passionate about. First, the love I have for dogs. I grew up with dogs and felt I had a magical bond with every dog I’ve ever encountered. It was because of this that I made several trips to the doctors office for minor cuts, scrapes and bites. Didn’t stop me from loving them though. There is something so special about this canine group. Today I share space with my six year old Golden Retriever, Willow. She’s by my side morning, noon, and night. She keeps me grounded. She keeps me sane. She keeps me from plunging a fork into someone when I hear stupid shit come out of their mouth. Anyway, she’s the best. Dogs are the best!
Second, that I seldom stay inside. I’ve had a love affair with the great outdoors since I was young. I use to climb a huge maple tree in our front yard, sit upon the thickest branch and read a book. I sat there until my butt was sore, the bark of the tree was imprinted on my backside and ants got a little too personal. Or I would sit on the side of our house on a sweltering summer afternoon, making clover chains and wouldn’t move until my peddle pushers (for those who don’t know what those are, they are trousers they came just below the knee) became damp from the heat. Eww!! I would ride my bike for hours, coming home only when the street lights came on or I heard dad’s whistle for supper. Catching crawdads and minnows in the creek then releasing them was a favorite summer activity. I can still smell that organic perfume of creek water and sludge. God I loved it.
Third, my love for growing things. I didn’t even discover my love for growing things until I was much older. It’s like that scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy emerges from the house after the tornado and discovers she’s in brilliant kaleidoscope of a place called Munchkinland. One day I just opened my eyes and saw the beauty of it all. I wanted to paint my yard with beauty and create a place where I could find peace. A place where I could unplug and detach from the state of today’s world. Escape the negativity, the intolerance, and constant bombardment of social media. So that’s where I find solace, in my garden, okay it’s really my yard but it works for me. I’ve attached a few photos of my sanctuary space. I hope everyone has a place, though it might look different than mine, but a calming place that’s uniquely yours.
Until next time friends!
Cheers!
